Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, educational, and practical support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery.

As a birth and postpartum doula, I help families feel informed, supported, and confident as they move through one of life’s biggest transitions. I do not provide medical care or replace your doctor or midwife-instead, I work alongside your care team to offer advocacy, comfort measures, education, nourishment, and grounded support for both you and your family.

My role is to help you feel safe, seen, and deeply supported.

Why did I become a doula?

My journey into birth work is rooted in my deep belief that women deserve better care, better education, and a stronger connection to their own bodies.

As both an herbalist and doula, I am passionate about helping women reconnect with the ancestral knowledge of birth, nourishment, postpartum healing, and body literacy. My goal is to help mothers, their partners, and their families move through this transition feeling informed, cared for, and deeply rooted.

Why hire a birth doula?

Birth is not just a physiological event—it is a major emotional, physical, and spiritual transition.

I help with childbirth education, birth planning, comfort measures during labor, partner support, advocacy, and creating a calm and grounded birth environment.

Whether you are planning a home birth, hospital birth, medicated birth, unmedicated birth, induction, VBAC, or cesarean birth, my role is to support your vision for birth.

Studies have shown that doula support can improve birth outcomes, reduce unnecessary interventions, and help families feel more satisfied and empowered in their birth experience.

Why hire a postpartum doula?

Postpartum support is often the missing piece of modern motherhood.

While so much focus is placed on pregnancy and birth, the healing and adjustment that happens after birth deserves just as much care. A postpartum doula helps ease the transition into parenthood by providing emotional support, newborn guidance, practical help around the home, nourishment, and recovery-focused care.

This may include meal prep, herbal recovery support, breastfeeding support, light household help, nervous system grounding, birth story processing, and helping you create sustainable rhythms for your new family.

You were never meant to do postpartum alone.

When should I reach out for pregnancy or postpartum support?

For Pregnancy Support:
The earlier, the better.

Many families reach out during the first or second trimester so we have plenty of time to build a strong foundation together. Early support allows us to focus on childbirth education, birth planning, prenatal nourishment, partner preparation, and creating a calm and confident approach to labor and birth.

That said, it is never too late. Some families reach out later in pregnancy—whether they are approaching their due date, planning an induction, preparing for a cesarean, or simply realizing they would like more support.

No matter where you are in your pregnancy, I am always open to beginning our journey together. My goal is to meet you where you are and provide care that feels aligned, supportive, and deeply personalized.

For Postpartum Support:
The earlier, the better.

Many families reach out during pregnancy—often in the second trimester—to begin planning for postpartum support. This gives us time to discuss your needs, create a thoughtful postpartum plan, prepare your home and support systems, and ensure space in my calendar around your due date.

However, it is never too late. No matter where you are in your postpartum period, I am always open to beginning our journey together. Whether you are preparing ahead or already in the thick of postpartum, my goal is to help create an experience that feels supported, nourishing, and sustainable for your family.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Some insurance plans may offer reimbursement for doula services depending on your provider and plan.

I carry professional liability insurance through CM&F Group. While I am not currently listed in their public directory, I can be added to the directory by request with a very quick turnaround if needed for verification purposes.

I am happy to provide invoices, documentation, or supporting information for reimbursement requests when applicable.

Please check directly with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage options.
